Beat the System is an RTS-FPS hybrid created during the Global Game Jam 2022 from January 28-30, 2022. With a grappling hook, the ability to spawn in units and carried turrets, and the ability to switch instantly from a top-down perspective to first-person, the player must fend off the opposition and capture all zones to win. The theme was “duality”, which we implemented as blending two genres together, being RTS and FPS. Link to the game jam page here.

For this project, we were a team of three initially, with a fourth added in the last 16 hours, so along with composing music and sound design, I was also in charge of level design, using the ProBuilder tool for that work. I composed an 8 minute loop of music, many sound effects, and set up a system in FMOD Studio to dynamically mix the audio differently if switching from FPS mode to RTS mode. Along with this, I created and maintained an asset spreadsheet for this project, which can be seen in an image below.
